CarePRO-LTC was developed to address the ongoing needs for family and friends caring for individuals with dementia (Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias – ADRD) who have been placed in long-term care facilities. 42% of residents in assisted living communities have Alzheimer’s or other dementias, and 61% of nursing home residents have moderate or severe cognitive impairment. Furthermore, by age 80, 75% of people with Alzheimer’s dementia are admitted to a nursing home, compared with only 4% of the general population. The caregiving role and its related stress and distress does not necessarily disappear after the placement of a loved one with ADRD in long-term care.

The overarching purpose of this study is to develop non-invasive, painless repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) protocols to prevent cognitive decline in individuals at high risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

University of Arizona – Tucson researchers are looking for volunteers living with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) to participate in a research study that investigates therapeutic effects of noninvasive brain stimulation on language.

EPIC: Living Alone is a research project designed to assist people with early-stage memory loss who are living alone in the community, by providing early-stage education and skill-training sessions designed to reduce stress, enhance well-being, manage challenges, and plan for the future.

EPIC II (Early-Stage Partners in Care) is a research project designed to assist people with early-stage memory loss and their care partners by providing early-stage related education and skill-training sessions designed to reduce stress, enhance well-being, manage challenges, and plan for the future. Researchers will gather feedback from individuals about their experience to continue to improve programs for early-stage memory loss.

FIT-AD SMART Trial is a 12-month study that is testing the impact of various exercise types on cognitive and physical outcomes in older adults with early-stage Alzheimer's disease. A study partner is required to report on quality-of-life measures.

The Learning Skills Together study is a Zoom-delivered complex care training for family caregivers to persons living with dementia.

• As more people live to advanced old age it is critical to gain a greater understanding of their health status and functional abilities during their life in relation to aging and cognition as a whole. Knowledge gained from the Longevity Study will have a great impact in our understanding of the continual aging spectrum.
• This study is currently enrolling individuals, who are 50 years old and above who are willing to share information about their life.  There is a wait list to enroll into the study with the oldest individuals called first.

The overall goal of this NIH funded project is to adapt a validated digital health intervention called Medication Education, Decision Support, Reminding, and Monitoring (MEDSReM) system (IRB: 22546), currently designed to improve hypertension medication adherence in cognitively normal older adults, to support self-management of hypertension medication for persons with mild cognitive impairment (PwMCI).
