Vascular Contributions to Alzheimer's - Multiple Locations

Eligibility Requirements:

Interested volunteers will complete a screening form, which includes demographics, function, cognition, mood, medications, medical history, and family history. Recruitment focuses on participants of age 60-90. Participants must have a study partner and agree to an MRI scan and blood draws.

About the Study:

This study will evaluate, over time, whether the presence of Cardiovascular risk factors contribute to the progression of memory and thinking decline, as well as changes in MRI measures and blood biomarkers.

Temple researchers will recruit and enroll at the Crozer Keystone Center for Geriatric Medicine.

The study will include a cohort of age and gender-matched cognitive normal, individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s. Participants will undergo the several memory and thinking assessments, a blood during the first visit, as well as after 1 and 2 years, and an MRI scan at year 1 and year 2.

Purpose:

The study will determine whether correlations exist between a history of cardiovascular and the development of memory and thinking decline, brain structural changes and specific fluid biomarker changes in elderly study groups.

What is Involved:

The study will consist of 3 blood draws, 2 MRI scans, and one set of memory and thinking assessments. Participants will be asked to attend 5 visits over 3 years. Potential reimbursement up to $250 per participant for time and travel.
