Eligibility Requirements

This study is recruiting people who:

  • Are 18+ years old
  • Live in the United States
  • Speak English or Spanish
  • Are informal caregivers for a community dwelling person with dementia or Alzheimer’s and firearm access
  • Have internet access
  • Do not need to live in the same home (or state) as the person with dementia or Alzheimer’s, but the person with dementia or Alzheimer’s cannot live in any type of facility.

About the Study:

Eligible participants will be asked to complete an initial online questionnaire that’s divided into two sections: one before viewing an online resource aimed at caregivers of people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, and one after viewing the resource. Participants will then be asked to complete additional online questionnaires two weeks, two months, and six months after they have completed the initial questionnaire. Interested, eligible participants will be provided with a $40 gift card after the initial questionnaire, $60 after the two month questionnaire, and $40 each after the two- and six-month questionnaires.

Purpose:

The goal of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a web-based caregiver tool on firearm safety decision making.

What is Involved:

Each participant will:

  • complete online questionnaires
  • answer questions about preparation for decision making, self-efficacy, and knowledge
  • receive a permanent hyperlink to the website so they may visit it later if desired
  • receive a brief supportive message with encouragement to revisit the website and take steps to ensure safety.
