The main study is looking for:

Primary, unpaid, Hispanic/Latino caregivers of patients diagnosed with dementia (at any stage) who are:

  • Receiving care from caregiver
  • Not permanently living in a care facility
  • English-literate

The supplemental study is looking for Hispanic/Latino caregivers.

About the Study:

The I-CARE2 Study is testing the effectiveness of a mobile, telehealth supported caregiver intervention aimed at providing support and training to caregivers to better manage behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia.

Purpose:

The purpose of the main I-CARE2 study is to test the effectiveness among a large sample of caregivers. Additionally, there a supplemental study with a purpose to recruit Hispanics into the trial and collect additional information on that subgroup regarding how the intervention meets and does not meet their needs. That information will be used for a future cultural adaptation of the intervention.

What is Involved:

All assessments will be scheduled and done remotely over the phone or with videoconferencing software (e.g., Zoom), or in-person when necessary.

Participants will be randomized into one of two groups:

Group 1 - Participants will utilize a mobile health application or “app” that will provide information to guide them through the essential elements of dementia care.

Group 2 - Participants will be provided with an app and additionally paired with a “care coach” who will help develop a care plan to address caregiving challenges.

Participants will be reminded to use the app at least monthly. If you do not own a smart phone, the study will loan you a device free of charge. Researchers will measure how you use the app and collect study-relevant data through the app during the duration of the study.
