Eligibility Requirements

You may be eligible if you meet the following criteria:

  • Aged over 55 years old
  • You are 1) diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment, OR 2) diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease
  • Act as the primary grocery shopper of the household (Study 1)
  • Have access to a laptop or desktop computer

About the Study:

Researchers are working to develop new behavioral tasks that measure cognitive impairment due to dementia. There are two studies available to take part in. You may participate in one or both studies.

Study 1: Two new tasks will be piloted in order to understand whether performance on these tasks are diagnostic of future cognitive impairment, and how performance on these tasks change over time. A few other short cognitive tasks (testing memory and language) will be performed for validation. Researchers may also use data from this task to explore links between diet and cognitive performance. You may earn up to $105 in gift codes for completing this study.

Study 2: A 15-minute online survey examining reasoning and decision making in older adult with and without cognitive impairments. You will earn a $3 gift code for your participant.

Participation in these studies will help improve the understanding of how neurological conditions such as Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s disease develop.

What is Involved:

If you are selected to participate, you will have the opportunity to complete one or both studies.

Study 1: You will be asked to complete six bi-weekly sessions. The first and last session will take about 1 hour each, and the other sessions will take approximately 20 minutes each. You will complete these assessments at home via an Internet-connected phone, tablet, or computer/laptop. There are two primary tasks in the assessment: a) In one task, you will watch short video clips (about 3 seconds each) and describe what is happening in that clip. b) In a second task, you will be asked to recall (from memory) the items you have purchased from recent grocery shopping trips. As part of this task, you will be required to save and submit your grocery receipts to us on a bi-weekly basis. A few other cognitive tasks (memory and language) will be included for validation.

Study 2: You will complete one-time online survey where you will be asked to complete a few reasoning and decision-making tasks. For example, you will be asked “why” certain events are happening and you will be asked to complete a gambling style game with fake currency. This study takes about 20 minutes.
