The Generation Program requires potential participants to undergo genetic testing. To be considered for the Generation Program, the next step is to join GeneMatch.
GeneMatch is a program of the Alzheimer's Prevention Registry, led by Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, which matches people to research studies based in part on their genetic information. GeneMatch will provide you with a cheek swab kit to determine what copies of the APOE gene you have to determine your eligibility for the Generation Program. You will not be told your APOE results as part of the GeneMatch program, however it will help us to determine if you may be eligible for the Generation Program or other studies in the future. If you are eligible, we will contact you by email with details regarding the next steps.

To qualify for the Generation Program, you need to meet the following requirements:
The Generation Program is made up of two clinical trials: Generation Study 1 and Generation Study 2.
The goal of the Generation Program is to find out whether experimental medications can prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s symptoms. In these clinical trials, we’ll test the study medications against placebo.
Research shows a link between a substance called amyloid beta and Alzheimer’s disease. The study medications may stop amyloid beta from building up in the brain.
Participants in this program could advance doctors’ understanding of how to potentially prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s.
Step 1 – Eligibility
To qualify for the program you must:
Step 2 – Genetic testing
We need to know whether you have the genetic marker before you can be enrolled. This requires a quick and simple cheek swab test that can be completed through the mail by joining the GeneMatch Program.
GeneMatch, led by the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, uses genetic testing (through no cost cheek swab kits) to match volunteers with research opportunities like the Generation Program.
If you are invited back to learn your genetic test results this does not mean you have the marker. You can refuse to hear your results if you no longer wish to take part, and before finding out your results you’ll be able to speak to a genetic counselor.
Only people with the genetic marker can take part in the Generation Program. Again, you can refuse an invitation at any point. This is an entirely voluntary process and we appreciate any time you give.
Do you already know that you have 1 or 2 copies of the APOE e4 gene? Contact us at info@endALZnow.org or 1‐888‐STOP‐ALZ (1‐888‐786‐7259).
Step 3 – Participate in the Generation Program
If you’re eligible for the Generation Program, the study will run for between 5 and 8 years.
You’ll be given an investigational study drug, or a placebo. A placebo is an inactive form of the drug, which is vital to ensure the reliability of the results. During the study, you’ll need to visit a study site at regular intervals so we can run tests to measure the safety and potential effectiveness of the products.
